If you're looking for the perfect fall/winter appetizer for your table or someone else's that is fast and cost effective, then look no further. These crescent rolls are stuffed with a sweet-savory combination that is deceptively simple and features an enticingly complex flavor profile. It has carmelized onion jam, which you could make yourself, but you can also get it from the store. The one I'm using in this recipe is from a local deli in New Jersey. See below for tips and flavor variations to make this recipe your own. When you taste this, you'll be shocked that it's only three ingredients! We enjoyed these so much at PTC, and we hope you do too! Watch the full video tutorial on Youtube and Instagram!
INGREDIENTS:
1 roll of canned crescent rolls (8 pack)
about 12 tsp carmelized onion jam
about 16 tsp very cold goat cheese
Preheat your oven to 380 degrees F. Lightly flour your work surface. Unroll the crescent rolls. Spread about 1.5 tsp carmelized onion jam on the crescrent rolls. Then take about 2 tsp of goat cheese and place it at the shortest edge of the crescent roll. Roll up the crescent roll, starting with the goat cheese side, so that the center of the crescent roll is the goat cheese. Repeat with each crescent roll. Set crescent rolls on a plate or tray in the freezer for about 5 minutes to allow them to set, but not freeze. Transfer them to a baking sheet. Bake for 10-18 minutes until crescents are golden brown on top. Enjoy!
Prep time = 15 min | Cook time = 10-18 minutes | Makes 8 crescent rolls
Tips:
Crumble some bacon, toastested nuts, or pumpkin seeds on top of the goat cheese before you roll it up to add some crunch and some more saltiness.
It's important to allow the crescent rolls to get a little firm because the goat cheese has a low melting point and you don't want it to run out on the tray! You also don't want the sugar in the jam to burn.
I have tried baking this according to the package instructions, but I find that a higer tempurature is best with this recipe to make sure the heat gets all the way through the center and the top gets golden. The bake time will depend on how much filling you add, and the different brand you choose.
