I think we all have that person in our lives that loves to cook - the kitchenista, the food connoisseur, the kitchen appliance junkie. The holiday gift season is here and you need to get that person a present. Look no further than the official 2023 holiday gift guide featuring my suggestions for what to gift that person (or yourself) this holiday season.
Pasta measurer, $ | I think we've all been in a postion where we are staring at a box of linguine, tagliatelle, or spaghetti, and asked yourself how much is enough? This little tool will solve your problem. Just pop the pasta in and it will give you a more accuate estimate so there's no waste and you're not having to refire the stove to boil more water because you didn't make enough (which I'm 100% guilty of having done).
Egg Slicer, $ | This little guy is so much fun to use. It makes perfectly neat slices for decorating your macaroni salad or making a neat layer of boiled egg for your sandwhiches. This tool helps you save time without sacrificing style and asthetic.
Wifi Kitchen Thermometer, $$-$$$ | If your giftee is a carnivore who likes to grill, then this is great. We love our Wi-Fi thermometer, especially for when Josh is grilling. It temps your meat in real time so that you don't have to worry about opening and closing your grill multiple times to temp your meat. This means that you can maintain a more even and consistent heat in your cooking enviornment while also ensuring that you're getting the perfect cook. Many versions will have an app to pair to your cell phone which allows the cook to choose the protein and doneness. It will alert you when you need to remove the meat from the heat. We only use ours when grilling, but they work just fine in ovens and airfryers!
Mini Espresso Spoons, $ | For the bougie coffee drinker, like my husband. These come in different metal finishes. We have yellow gold ones as they match best with the emrald green espresso cups we have.
Olive Wood Nut Cracker, $$ | It's cute, it's functional, and makes a lovely decoration for the corner of a kitchen counter or an open kitchen shelf.
Bread Warming Stone and Basket and Unique Bread Slicer, $$ | Okay so this is a 2-in-1 kind of situation, but I think they go great together, though they can be given separately of course. The bread warmer has a stone that can be microwaved or placed in the oven. Your bread sits on top the warm stone and keeps your bread warm as if each piece just came straight from the oven, even when you reach for seconds in the middle of dinner. And the breadslicer, I mean come on. It's fabulous and a great talking point when entertaining. The one that I linked here is customizable so you can have text engraved on the wood. You'll get great slices of your sourdough or french baguette and which can be kept warm in your breadwarmer.
Foraging Bag, $$ | This is a great gift for that farm-to-table friend with the green thumb who cooks with the ingredients they grow themselves. This little foraging bag will make collecting food from their garden a breeze.
Elevated Oil Dispenser, $$ | Does any one really need this? No. But is it pretty? Of course! These dispensers are gorgeous, though there are many others you could choose from. I think that it makes a great talking point when entertaining, and is really pleasing to the eye. My reccomendation is that if you are using this with olive oil, make sure that it is a dark or opaque bottle as olive oil can become unstable and loose its healthy properties when exposed to light.
Oyster Shell Salt and Pepper Container with Oyster Shell Napkin Rings, $$ | Another pair that I think will go nicely together. I think that these salt and pepper holders are great even if you don't have a beach themed house. They come in so many colors and some even have these cute little scoppers to go with it! To pair, you can gift a set of oyster shell napkin rings. These are excellent for summer dining or seafood night.
Resusable Linen Bowl Covers, $ | What I love about this gift is that it's not only cute and functional, but it's also sustainable. Plastic covers are single use and take eons to biodegrade. These reusable bowl covers kind of resemble shower caps and can show off a person's personality with lots of different design styles. Some are made in a "one-size-fits-all" fashion while others come in different sizes. The one I've linked here is thoughtfully designed to fit a standard casserole dish.
Gnocchi Board, $$-$$$ | I made a video on three different ways to shape gnocchi without a gnocchi board. But if you are looking for a less rustic look that is more uniform and focuses more on style than substance, then the gnocchi board is a great gift! They don't change the flavor or texture of the gnocchi, just the aesthetic.
Personalized Cookie Stamp $-$$ | This is perfect for the one who loves to share their bakes! They may even thank you with some personalized cookies. Initals, quotes, small buisness name, the customization opprotunities are endless with these personalized cookie stamps!
Macrame Fruit Basket $-$$ | This is a really thoughtful gift for someone with reduced kitchen space (a college dorm, a shoe box-sized apartment in Manhattan, etc.). This lifts the fruit off the counter which will offer more counter space for cooking/storage. The macrame adds a great boho touch!
Donate Food, $-$$$ | This is really for that person who insists that they don't want a present but you still want to do something to show them your appreciation. You can donate food to people who are experiencing food insecurity in that person's honor. There's lots of organizations that do this. There may be something that is local to you. I know around the holidays, Fresh Thyme has grocery bags priced at different amounts that people can buy to be donated to people in the local area.
